McGovern, a senior finance major, is a member of the TCU women’s golf team.McGovern with a few of her acceptance letters.Photo Credit: Haley Harrison“I applied to a lot,” she said. “And I’ve been accepted by them all, and then waitlisted at Stanford and Harvard.”The senior said while her decision has been narrowed down, things still aren’t clear as to where she’ll end up.“I have put in my seat deposit at [the] University of Pennsylvania, McGovern said. “But I am staying on the waitlist at Stanford and Harvard, and to stay on the waitlist, if you get in, you have to go.”If accepted by either Stanford or Harvard, McGovern said she would lose not only her seat at Penn but also her seat deposit. She has gotten close to many of her teammates, including senior Alex Soborov.Soborov, also a finance major, said she first met McGovern when McGoven was visiting TCU. Knowing they were potential teammates, the two became friends.“Kelly continues to amaze me and impress me with everything she’s able to accomplish,” said Soborov. “Anything she sets her heart and her mind too she achieves with flying colors. She’s participated in every tournament the team has played in and has a 4.0 GPA.”McGovern said the time commitment of being a student athlete can get difficult sometimes, but she has “really enjoyed it.”Along with Penn, Stanford and Harvard, McGovern said the list of schools she applied to include Duke University, Cornell University and a number of northern schools. She said she excluded the northern schools, including Cornell, from her decision because of the weather. She said they “felt depressing and isolated.”McGovern said she appreciates the education she has received from TCU as well as her experience of being a student. She said the value of the education at TCU is “huge.”“TCU has really helped me get into these schools,” said McGovern. “These top law schools have high respect for the degree.” Facebook Polo club riding high on success The College of Science and Engineering Dean, Phil Hartman, retires after 40 consecutive years Dean Del Rio Jr is a Journalism major from Fort Worth, Texas.
