first_imgTOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y.—A new Assistant District Attorney will join the ranks over at the courthouse according to an announcement Tuesday. The new member of the team is attorney Ariana Marmora –– a Cornell graduate and Hector native.Marmora’s hiring will fill a vacancy that had been open since January of last year.A 2014 graduate from City University of New York School of Law, Marmora “has worked for the past six years representing indigent tenants as a Senior Staff Attorney and CommunityOutreach Specialist in the Housing Unit of Mobilization for Justice, Inc. in New York City.,” the announcement of her hiring states. The announcement adds her credentials as a graduate of Cornell University and Watkins Glen High School. Your Crime & Courts news is made possible with support from: “I’m extremely pleased to add Ariana Marmora to our team of attorneys, and I strongly believe that her professional background makes her uniquely qualified to zealously advocate for fair and just outcomes in our local criminal courts,” District Attorney Van Houten said.According to the DA’s office Marmora will be assigned to Ithaca City Court, Ithaca Community Treatment Court (misdemeanor drug court) and will be the District Attorney’s representative on the Operations Working Group for the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) Program –– a progressive criminal justice program that was given a jump start with nearly a million dollars in funding last December.“I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in Tompkins County and look forward to working with community members and stakeholders in the LEAD program. My background in poverty law and my years representing indigent tenants in New York City—many of whom were marginalized folks with mental health disabilities—will inform my perspective and actions as a new prosecutor.”Marmora joins a team of six other assistant DAs in Tompkins County led by Van Houten and Deputy District Attorney Andrew Bonavia.
