The areas of research interestinclude Solid Mechanics (e.g., fatigue, fracture, metal processing,damage mechanics, and constitutive modeling), Thermal Sciences(e.g., energy systems, renewable energy, combustion, fluiddynamics), Materials (metallurgy, computational materials,materials characterization), Computational Mechanics (e.g.,numerical methods, finite element analysis, etc.) and Design (e.g.,materials design, product design, systems design, environment andsustainability, robust design and uncertainty quantification).Candidates in other areas will also be considered. Successfulcandidates will be expected to develop internationally-recognized,externally-funded, sustainable research programs and to makesignificant contributions to the department’s teaching and serviceresponsibilities.The Liberty University School of Engineering ( LUSOE ) comprisesfour departments with a forthcoming Civil Engineering Departmentand a forthcoming Computational Science and Engineering Departmentbeing a virtual department in which faculty from the otherdepartments can partake of Computational Science and Engineering.The LUSOE offers an ABET -accredited undergraduate program as wellas graduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition,LUSOE offers undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. distance learningprograms as well as residential programs. The LUSOE is juststarting to grow as LU has invested in growing the engineeringprogram.Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely alignedfield. Candidates are expected to have demonstrated the ability toconduct research at the highest level and to have a record of, orthe promise for, outstanding teaching, supervision of students, andservice to the LUSOE . Candidates in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. and/or anM.S. degree but willing to pursue a Ph.D. may be considered.Outstanding junior level candidates who have significant potentialwill also be considered at the Assistant Professor level.Successful candidates will be expected to conduct research, teachfirst-year undergraduate classes, and contribute to theDepartment’s service mission.Applicants must demonstrate a personal faith commitment to theUniversity’s evangelical Christian purpose.Preferred QualificationsPreference is given to candidates with a terminal degree in anengineering field. Preference will also be given to candidates whocan also qualify to teach Calculus 1 or have a mathematicsminor.This position teaches in the School of Engineering programs. Dutiesinclude teaching general engineering courses at 100, 200, and some300 levels. General Engineering topics include (but are not limitedto):-Introduction to engineering and problem solving-Engineering economy-Quality assurance-Technical communications-Probability and statistical methods for engineers-Calculus for engineers-Calculus with MATLAB-Engineering ethical and legal issuesWork HoursThis is a residential position.
