first_imgSANTA FE SPRINGS – Two deputies were injured early Tuesday when their patrol car and another vehicle collided at a Santa Fe Springs intersection, authorities said. The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. at Florence and Bloomfield avenues, said Sgt. Brian Doyle of the sheriff’s Norwalk Station. Two deputies in the patrol car and two men in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. One of the deputies was immediately released; his partner was kept for observation, Doyle said. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Scholarships to aid high school seniors SANTA FE SPRINGS – Applications for the annual Destiny scholarship and Powell grant are available at the Betty Wilson and Neighborhood centers; Pioneer, Santa Fe Springs and St. Paul high schools; Santa Fe Springs Chamber of Commerce; Santa Fe Springs City Hall; Santa Fe Springs Library; and Town Center Hall. Applicants for the Destiny scholarship must be high school seniors who have lived in Santa Fe Springs for two or more years and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Those interested in the Powell Grant must be graduating high school seniors currently enrolled in a college, art academy or trade school. Applicants must reside in Santa Fe Springs for two or more years and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. March 31 to the Santa Fe Springs Youth Enrichment Fund, 12016 Telegraph Road, Suite 100, Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670. Dinner dance to benefit hospital MONTEBELLO – The board of trustees of the Beverly Hospital Foundation will hold its annual dinner dance at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sequoia Ballroom of Disney’s Grand Californian, 1600 S. Disneyland Drive, Anaheim. This year’s theme is “Black and White Ball.” Black tie is preferred. Tickets for the gala are available for $175 to $250 per person.
