first_imgDozens of businesses from across Inishowen and further field packed into the recently opened Slieve Snacht Centre in Drumfries on Thursday night to participate in a speed networking event hosted by Buncrana Chamber of Commerce. In all, a diverse range of 34 different businesses were represented, and while ‘speed dating for business’ is hard work, the participants also found the event extremely enjoyable. The purpose of the event was to introduce the business owners present to potential new customers as well as new suppliers. Speaking after the event, Chamber of Commerce president Ryan Stewart praised the businesses who attended.Stewart told Donegal Daily, “For a solid two hours, there was real enthusiasm in the centre, and a constant rumble of voices pitching their businesses, making new connections, and creating new business relationships.“Some participants also travelled from much further afield also, which shows the quality that we have to offer in Inishowen.”At the event, local businesses were asked to take turns pitching their business for two minutes each, and see if they could find common ground upon which they could business in the future, then move along to the next person at the sound of a bell. Some sales were even conducted on the night, while for others, conversations and negotiations continued long after the final bell had sounded.“People are interested in events like this because trading locally is not just something that feel you have to do, it’s a culture, and events like this only encourage and maintain that culture.“Events like this are vital in continuing to improve the local business environment. It’s not just about sales either. Attendees varied from long established, well known businesses, to brand new start-ups.“Many offered advice to the new start-up ventures, as well as providing them with useful business contacts of their own. The event has had a direct benefit for all who attended,From speaking to the participants at the end, it is clear that new connections have been formed, products and services have been sold, business referrals have been passed, and eyes have been opened to the quality on our doorsteps.” “The Slieve Snacht Centre in Drumfries was a fantastic location also, and I’m delighted they were able to show the new centre in a great light to business owners across Donegal, and impress them with their brand new facilities, and they were extremely helpful in putting the event together.”Further business related events are being planned by the Chamber of Commerce throughout the year, and business owners across the peninsula are being encouraged to take part, with details to be released in the near future. To stay informed, or to join the Chamber of Commerce, please contact John Keyes on 074 9321720 or email [email protected] Visit for more information or follow on Facebook at SPEED NETWORKING EVENT HAILED AS A MASSIVE SUCCESS was last modified: March 4th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:BusinessFeaturesnewslast_img
