MONTEBELLO – An El Monte man died Sunday in a collision allegedly caused by a drunken driver, the California Highway Patrol reported.CHP officers reported that a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird driven by 42-year-old Santa Fe Springs resident Luis Ramirez was traveling south on Rosemead Boulevard near the Whittier Narrows when it veered into the northbound lane at about 12:30 a.m.It collided head-on with a 2001 Honda Civic carrying six people and heading north on Rosemead, the CHP reported.A man sitting in the back seat of the Civic – who was not wearing a seat belt – was launched from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to the CHP. The man’s name was not being released pending notification of his next of kin.Ramirez and the other survivors were treated for “moderate-to-major” injuries at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, according to the CHP.Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. During the investigation, the northbound lanes of Rosemead Boulevard were closed for about three hours, officers reported. From staff reportslast_img
