Four-star Tusker humble AFC to move fifth

first_imgThis was AFC’s biggest defeat of the season, further piling pressure on head coach Rodolfo Zapata who just over the weekend saw the side eliminated from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Shield by Sofapaka.Tusker, eager to push into the top five in the standings had a brilliant start and within the opening two minutes, they had a chance to break the deadlock. Brian Osumba cut back a cross from the left with Boniface Muchiri’s effort blocked. The rebound fell on Peter Nzuki who tried going for a spectacular volley and the effort could not even get on target as it went high above goal.AFC, still with fresh wounds from their Shield exit over the weekend had their first chance of the game in the 13th minute when Duncan Otieno’s ferocious freekick from the left was turned behind for a corner by keeper Patrick Matasi.AFC started the set piece short with Baker Lukooya floating the eventual cross which was met by Salim Abdallah at the far post, heading it over.AFC Leopards midfielder Edward Seda tries to control the ball under pressure from Tusker FC defender Eric Ambunya during a Kenyan Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on September 26, 2018. PHOTO/Timothy OlobuluIngwe had another brilliant opportunity in the 20th minute when Ezekiel Odera knocked down the ball beautifully for Brian Marita, but the wingback’s shot was well collected by keeper Matasi. The shot stopper quickly launched the ball back into play and AFC were punished for the missed chance going one down. From Matasi’s distribution in goal, the ball eventually landed on Brian Osumba who took a shot at goal from range deflecting off Abdallah and Ochieng was faster to react to the ball inside the box, racing to it and tapping it past Ezekiel Owade in the AFC goal.Seven minutes later, Tusker who now had the upper hand in the game had another opportunity off a counter attack with Muchiri releasing Timothy Otieno on the right but the latter’s shot was blocked by Owade.Tusker FC midfielder Brian Osumba shields the ball away from AFC Leopards defender Mike Kibwage during a Kenyan Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on September 26, 2018. PHOTO/Timothy OlobuluTusker continued dominating play, passing the ball around well with AFC chasing shadows and evidently lacking the motivation to fight back. The brewers went 2-0 up with three minutes left before halftime, Tangauzi striking a superb goal off a counter on the right. The right back was released by Osumba on the wing before going past Abdallah with a little nutmeg and breaking into the box to fire past a dazed Owade. Tangauzi should have had his brace at the stroke of halftime when he drove away on the right again, but this time Owade denied him.In the second half , Zapata made changes with Brian Marita coming off for Christopher Oruchum while Edward Seda was also subbed off for Eugene Mukangula. Later on Nabwire was also hauled out for Saad Musa.AFC were up in confidence but still, they couldn’t master a way past the brewers. It was Robert Matano’s men who would wrap up the game with two goals in quick succession, both in easy fashion.Muchiri made it three with a cool calm and composed finish inside the box while Macharia scored in similar fashion after fellow substitute Mike Khamati had won the ball off Abdallah before Macharia picked up to drive into the box.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Tusker FC players celebrate one of their four goals against AFC Leopards during a Kenyan Premier League match at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on September 26, 2018. Defense pay-to-play

first_img AD Quality Auto 360p 720p 1080p Top articles1/5READ MORESanta Anita opens winter meet Saturday with loaded card It may all be legal, mainly because the laws are written by the beneficiaries, but it’s disgusting nonetheless. From an ethical standpoint, it’s unacceptable to have a government that’s essentially for sale. But compounding the outrage are the national-security implications. With the country waging its War on Terror, and with troops in Iraq and Afghanistan whose very lives depend on the equipment they use, it’s abhorrent that our leaders’ decisions may be influenced by special interests. Politicians swear they’re not being bought, but they’re hardly beyond doubt. We already know that ousted Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, R-San Diego, accepted bribes from a defense contractor. And the burgeoning Jack Abramoff scandal threatens to implicate any number of leaders in crooked deals with Indian gaming interests. Americans have good reason to be suspicious. The flow of thousand-dollar donations to political leaders and million-dollar contracts back to defense interests ought to have alarm bells ringing. When it comes to military contracts, good government is not only a matter of ethics, but life and death. For a company trying to secure a federal defense contract, it’s not necessary to pony up big contributions to powerful politicians – but it sure helps. The results of a Daily News review of the records speak for themselves: Of 32 Southern California companies to receive defense contracts over the last three years, 30 pumped cash into the campaigns of local or national politicians, either through direct contributions from their top executives, political action committees or Washington lobbyists. That leaves just two companies that reaped rewards without first sending a tribute to Washington – two apparent exceptions to an unseemly rule. Now, no one alleges that any laws have been broken, or that there’s a quid pro quo in which companies get contracts in exchange for contributions. But what few deny is that there is an unofficial system of pay-to-play at work here: Give money, and more powerful people will give you a hearing. You still might not get the contract, but at least you’ve got a shot. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! Harps edge closer to sealing their place in Premier Division next season

first_imgIt has been a long season but Finn Harps have almost guaranteed themselves a place in the Premier Division for next season.Ollie Horgan’s side drew 0-0 with Wexford Youths in Ferrycarrig Park tonight but it is still mathematically possible for Wexford to catch the Donegal side. The Ballybofey outfit are six points clear of Youths with the Wexford team facing a tough encounter against Cork City on Monday. Nothing less than victory will keep Wexford’s hopes alive. The south-easterners also then face a tricky encounter away to Sligo as Harps entertain Bohemians at Finn Park.Harps had to survive a nervous second half as Wexford went in search of a win which would have strengthened their fight for survival.Packie Mailey and Ryan Curran had chances to snatch all three points for Harps. In the end a couple of saves from Ciaran Gallagher kept Wexford at bay.Premier Division football is not guaranteed for Finn Park next season but Ollie Horgan has one eye on further encounters with the likes of Dundalk and Cork next seasonHarps edge closer to sealing their place in Premier Division next season was last modified: October 22nd, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Man stabbed with blade after ‘bumping’ into passer-by

first_imgA man found he had been stabbed with a blade after ‘bumping’ into some youths in broad daylight in Co Donegal. The horrific incident happened as the man was walking down Letterkenny’s Port Road just after 2.30pm on Wednesday last. The man was walking along the footpath with a woman when he was passed by three youths wearing hoodies. One of the youths ‘bumped’ into the man and walked on.The man later noticed he had a sharp pain in his side. When he examined the soreness he discovered that a blade had been embedded into his side. The man received medical treatment but has made a full recovery. Gardai have said this was NOT an accident.“This was a deliberate attack but we have not established a motive for it. This happened in broad daylight and a full investigation has been launched into it,” said the spokesperson.Local county councillor and chairman of the Joint Policing Committee in Donegal, Gerry McMonagle said he was horrified by the incident.“This was not a robbery so the only reason I can see is that these people simply wanted to hurt that other person, a random stranger as they were walking along the street.“It’s a horrific thing to happen and the fact that it happened in broad daylight is even more concerning. “I hope the person makes a full recovery and I have no doubt that the Gardai are doing all in their powers to track whoever is responsible down,” he said.Man stabbed with blade after ‘bumping’ into passer-by was last modified: July 10th, 2019 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:attackbladedonegalletterkennylast_img read more
